How to Apply for ABN (Australian business number) in Australia
If you want to work in Australia, you either need TFN or ABN or both. If you want to work for someone else, you must have TFN, you can read more information on TFN here. If you want to work for yourself (as sole trader) example: Driving UBER or work as individual contractors, you must need ABN. When you apply for ABN and if it is straight forward application, you get your ABN number straight away, if it is complicated application or system finds some issues with your application it will go to review team which manually check your application and send you ABN number by post.
You need to apply via ABR website. You can go to ABN apply page directly from here. Make sure to select Sole Trader if you want to work as individual contractor such as uber driver.
