Where Indians live in Sydney
I often get this question from new migrant “Which suburb is best place for Indians to live in Sydney”. It all depends on where you work, which university do you go to, weather you want to live in Indian community or weather you prefer to live in suburb where you can enjoy night life.
In this post, I am focusing on suburb which are cheaper, good for Indians who wants to live in Indian community.
If I am new in Sydney I would prefer to live in western Sydney suburb. List of good suburbs are Harris park, Parramatta, Pendle Hill, Toongabbie and Blacktown. Also, I may choose Liverpool.
Western Sydney Suburb for Indians:
Harris park is the hub of Indian community. It is like little India. You will see lot of Indians in this suburb. In fact, almost 80% population in this suburb are Indians. This is neighbour suburb of Parramatta (Second biggest city in Sydney). You will find lot of Indian restaurant and Indian grocery store. There are about more than 20 Indian restaurants in Harris park and about 5 Indian grocery stores.
Harris park is cheaper to rent. Only drawback is train. This suburb has slow train and less train frequency then all other wester Sydney suburbs. You will get train every 20 to 30 min.
If you want Fast train to city (every 5 to 10 min) you may want to look for Parramatta or Blacktown. Parramatta ir second CBD so rent is expensive so you have only option to live in Blacktown.
Blacktown is also very big suburb with lot of Indians but not as many as Harris park, Wentworth-Ville, Pendle hill.
Time and Fare takes to go to City:
From Blacktown to City: 44 Min Fare $6.61 one way
From Pendle Hill to City: 38 Min Fare $4.94 one way
From Blacktown to City: 28 Min Fare $4.94 one way
From Blacktown to City: 34 Min Fare $4.94 one way
There are also other suburbs where Indians live but as I mentioned if I was you I would go for above suburbs to start.
