Schooling in Australia

Job description:
Schooling in Australia is the most asked question by t the family who are planning to come to Australia.  below I have shared some info about schooling system in Australia.

Australian schooling system is very different from India. In India, i think kids start to go to school from the age 3 or 4.  In Australia, requirnments are slightly different from state to state but I will focus more on NSW. For entry into pre-school, the child must be four years old by July 31st in the year of attendance. Secondary School starts in Year 7 in NSW through to Year 12.

There are 3 types of schools in Australia. The government, Catholic and Private.

Government schools are free same as India. Most of the kids go to governments school in Australia as Catholic and private schools are expensive. Most of all suburbs have primary schools. and secondary schools are shared among 2 to 3 suburbs. If you want to go to the government school you must be living in that suburb (catchment area of the school). usually, you need to show your lease paper, electricity bill as proof of residency of that suburb.

Catholic schools are a little bit expensive. Average fees are about $6000 to $10,000 per year per child. If you believe government school in your suburb is not good you can send your child to catholic school.

Private school are very expensive. Average fees are $10K to $15K per child per year. Not all family can afford specially new migrants. But you have option to send your kids to private schools as well.

I think government schools are very good in Australia. You can do more research about school in the suburb you want to live before committing so you know you are sending your kids to best schools.

Education:

in Australia kids do not need to sit in the exam till they are in year 3.  In year 3 there is state level exam (NAPLAN) in this exam if your kids score good score you can then send your kids to selective government schools (only good ranking kids can get admission in selective schools). If your kid don’t score in year 3 he/she can still try in year 5 and year 7.
