Checklist after you arrive in Australia. Some tips for new migrant who recently arrived in Australia.
At Airport in Australia:
– Make sure you have all your belongings with you
– Fill arriving card and declare everything you have. Do not try to hide anything. Example if you have dry fruits or medicine or anything made from wooden declare it. If you have declared and customs officer finds it they will destroy that from you. But if you did not declare and they will find you will get fine up to $300
– Take Taxi to your arranged accommodation
Bank Account:
– Open Bank Account. Opening bank account in Australia is much easier. You can open online or in the branch. Go to Branch with your passport and address proof (if you have)
– Make sure to check on bank’s website first. Some smaller banks such as Bankwest or St George offer good value. Such as you can use any ATM in Australia without any extra charges, No monthly account fees
– Always real terms and condition for any catch. Example Bankwest offer no monthly account keeping fess if you deposit $2000 or more per month in that account.
Mobile:
– I prefer pre-paid mobiles as you don’t get bill shock example using too much data. You can get Lyca-mobile, Amysim or Vodafone
– You only need copy of passport to activate SIM
TFN:
– TFN (Tax File Number) is must to get a job in Australia
– You can apply TAX file number online from ATO Australia website
Car:
Cars are cheaper to buy in Australia. You can good second-hand car for about $2000 to $3000. You may like to check car buying Guide in Australia for more information
