2 of the students were cheated

New Comers: Please Make sure you don’t get caught. Do not trust anyone easily even if the person is an Indian. Always think twice before giving away your money or personal details to anyone. I have received message from 2 of the members who were cheated by other Indians in Australia. It is really shame.

We come to Australia far from our family and friends for new and better life. New comers do not have any friends here so they rely on other Indians hoping they will get help. Obviously not all are same. Some are good and some are bad. So it is your responsibility to make sure you deal with good people.

2 of the recent fraud Case. Indians cheated other Indians in Sydney.

No pay for Training:

One of the students who recently arrived in Australia was looking for a Job. He met one of the Indians who is the owner of the convenience store in Sydney. The indian owner offered him a job but said he needs training. So he must work for one week for free and after his training he will give him full time work.

The student worked for 1 week without pay. Later the convenience store owner offered him a job. The student worked almost 30 to 36 hours per week on cash on hand. After two weeks the student received only one week of pay. The owner said it is their policy to hold off one week pay just in case. The Student wanted job so he kept working not to mention on a very low hourly rate. After 6 months he got a job at Coles. So he said the owner he is leaving. The owner did not pay his last 2 weeks’ pay and when he asked for his remaining pay the owner threatened him and said he will ask again for pay he will report him to the immigration department for illegal work (working more than 20 hours a week). The student just let that money go. This is real Shame to the person who did.

Asked Money to give Job then run away:

Another incident in Sydney. One of the students was approached by an Indian who said he works in HR department in Singapore airlines. He said he can help him to get a cleaner job in Singapore airlines. For this he must undergo medical examination to check if he is fit for the work. He must pay $400 medical examination fees and once passed he will get job with pay of $29 per hour. The student did not have any work so he agreed to pay $400. The person was very smart. Even he made fake offer letter looks like it is really from Singapore airlines. The student paid him $400 and not to mention he disappeared and even changed his number.

I do not want to disclose anyone’s name. The only reason to publish this post to let new comes know this happens here too.

  • Always be very careful
  • Do not work for Free in the name of Training
  • Do not give money to anyone in exchange to get JOB
  • Cash on hand work is illegal in Australia
  • If you are cheated do not hesitate to go to Police
  • Call NSW fair Trading on 13 77 88 if owner do not pay you money for the work

If you have similar experience please send an email to australianindians@gmail.com and I will publish your post. You can even NAME and SHAME on our facebook page. But please make sure only genuine post will be published on this website and Facebook page.
