Over 20 Indian have been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison in US



More than 20 Indian origin persons have been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison in the US. They were involved in a multimillion-dollar call centre scam which targeted thousands of US citizens.

Several of the convicted will be deported to India after the completion of their sentence.

These people used various telephone fraud schemes to defraud mainly vulnerable Americans, Including the elderly and legal migrants.

It happens in Australia too. The Department of Immigration and Border Protection in Australia is warning that there are a number of scams which target people looking for visas and jobs.

The caller usually insists that a fine be paid immediately as a penalty for an alleged error committed by the intended victim.

the spokesman from Immigration department said  ‘Be aware this is a scam. If you receive a call of this nature, we advise that you hang up immediately and report the call to police in your state or territory, and to us on the Immigration Dob-in Service’.
