The Australian Federal Government will abolish the 457 visa, Prime Minister Turnbull said. Prime Minister said “We will no longer allow 457 visas holders to do jobs that could and should go to Australians”

Current 457 visa will be replaced by two new visas. These Two new temporary skills shortage visas will impose tougher English language tests and will require at least two years of work experience and a mandatory police check.

Current visa holders will not be affected by the changes. which will see the introduction of two new temporary skills visas — a two-year visa and a more specialized one for four years “targeted at higher skills”.

From 19 April, the occupation lists that underpin the 457 visa provisions will be condensed from 651 to 435 occupations, with 216 occupations removed, and access to 59 other occupations restricted.

The list, which previously included more than 650 types of work, will no longer include roles such as call center managers, shearers or actors.
