Do you buy ready-made snacks and other imported items from Indian store ? Then you should read below.  SBS Punjabi radio investigation team sent 18 indian imported items purchased from indian grocery store to the national measurement Institute, a food testing lab.

As per test there are many items failed Australian food safety standards.

Kohinoor Basmati Rice: BUPROFEZIN Found

As per lab result the Kohinoor Basmati brand rice contains .014 milligrams of insecticide buprofezin per KG. As per Australian standard food should not contain this chemical.

Verka Ghee:  DDT found

Laboratory test found verka Ghee contains traces of the carcinogenic insecticide DDT. Although the level is within Australia’s food safety standard but some experts still believe even small amount of DDT is harmful.

Indus Rice: Chlorpyrifos was found

As per test Indus rice contains traces of the insecticide chlorpyrifos . heavy amount of this type of unsecticide impacts on the nervous system.

MDH: Pesticides found

Tests revealed MDH “Tawa Fry Masala”contains .22 milligrams of the fungicide carbendazim per KG. This amount is more than twice the limit set by the Food standards. It also contains .066 milligrams of the insecticide imidacloropid per KG and this is also above the food standard.

My personal Experience:

Many times I have found Indian stores sell expired items. Sometimes they remove expire date and write new expire date on it.

• Always make sure to check expire date before buying anything from Indian grocery stores.
• Try to avoid imported ready-made snacks
