Indian former High commissioner fined

On Wednesday 20^th March 2024, an Australian court ordered former high commissioner to pay $97,200 to a domestic worker, who worked for him for 13 months in 2015-16. As per media report, domestic worker worked at least 17 hours a day. he paid less than $10 a day to the worker.

This is not the first time an Indian diplomat has been accused of underpaying their domestic staff. In 2013, Indian consulate in New York was arrested by American authority after being accused of lying on a visa application for her domestic staff and under paying her.
