An Indian student who murdered his 10 weeks pregnant girlfriend was sentenced to life imprisonment by Auckland high court on Tuesday as per Stuff.co.nz.
The 24 years old Indian Student, Akash, was on high ice when he murdered his pregnant girlfriend, gurpreet kaur
The court was told that Akash was taking treatment for his psychotic episodes when he was in India and he stopped the treatment after he arrived in NZ in 2013.
Akash believed that he was the father of unborn child until the day of murder when he came to know it is not true and he is not father of the child.
Gurpreet was murdered on 7th April 2016 and her body was found by police on 10th April 2016. Police found blood stains in his car. Initially he maintained his innocence but later he found guilty to the crime. “You knew she was pregnant and stabbed her most deeply and often in [the] abdomen,” the high court judge said while sentencing him. The Judge said the crime was cruel and brutal.
Akash must server at least seventeen years in prison and after that he will be deported to India.
